AirBoss “SmartAir” Story

AirBoss® Concept Development

In the beginning, “The Rack” air rotation system was developed as a result of efforts to solve air distribution problems in hot house growing environments.  Later, Rack solutions were applied to heating only air distribution problems in commercial facilities, all with the common design element of open ceilings without interior wall divisions.  The Rack underwent many developmental changes to become the premiere HVAC air distribution (commercial open ceiling air-handler) system available for heating applications. Each development and improvement along the way was acknowledged, which led to a general local market acceptance, principally, in southern Indiana and northern Kentucky.

Several years following concept inception, KCC International, a manufacturer of roof top curbs, an HVAC service and construction company in the Louisville, KY area and an HVAC systems manufacturer for The TRANE Company, began routine use of “The Rack” in heating and air conditioning designs. As a result of KCC’s successful experience with the system, Al Fiorini, CEO, formed a team of construction products veterans to promote and sell the concept nation-wide. The Rack was private labeled to this group as “AirBoss”, now AirBoss “Smart Air”.

There is ready acceptance that air circulation is a significant problem within big box commercial facilities. The AirBoss team developed a unique application design to combat this problem and conducted talks with engineers at several major research universities, including Georgia Tech and Clemson, and HVAC manufacturers, who expressed support for the viability of the AirBoss solution. The AirBoss system greatly improves air distribution, including temperature stratification, which enables HVAC design engineers to reduce A/C tonnage.

Applications and certain features of the AirBoss equipment are patent protected. See U.S. Patent No. 10,473,348.
