AirBoss “Smart Air” Applications

AirBoss “SmartAir” designs are specific to high ceiling warehouse and distribution type facilities without interior partitions that restrict air flow. Heating and cooling or heat only with summer ventilation solutions provide superior economic and comfort results. AirBoss can accommodate new construction or retrofit projects and deliver an exceptional cost-effective solution. AirBoss units produce high cubic feet per minute (cfm) of air flow and provide an adjustable “smart” method for controlling the direction and volume of dynamic air flow, without costly ducts or 4-way diffusers systems .

Air Conditioning Smart Design Solutions

AirBoss “SmartAir” Cooling

When a facility design calls for air conditioning, the AirBoss solution is to include the appropriate air conditioning equipment to the heating and ventilation design.  The AirBoss cooling design prevents stratification because of the dynamic air flow produced and thus maintains a uniform floor to ceiling temperature equilibrium. When this condition is maintained within a facility, HVAC systems require fewer tons and units, which add up to greater efficiency and cost.  The accompanying “Technical White Paper” provides a thorough technical explanation of the system. Specifically, how designers are able to reduce air conditioning tons and units and achieve a superior result. To date, over 20 years, AirBoss “Smart Air” technology systems are managing more than 150 million square feet of facility space.

Cooling Operation

The AirBoss system operates 24/7 to prevent temperature stratification or warm areas in facilities.  When equilibrium (the temperature is the same throughout a space) is achieved, an HVAC system does not require as many system units or tons to maintain the thermostat set point temperature. The accompanying “AirBoss Smart Design an Engineering Analysis”, “White Paper” demonstrates the technical result when +/- 2° F is maintained throughout facilities.  It is more efficient to cool air that is 2° F from thermostat set point, vs air that is 5° to 20° F warmer than the thermostat set point. AirBoss system design engineers calculate the most efficient number of facility air turns per hour to maximize the most efficient return air temperature over the coils. More air turns result in lower return air temperature. This calculation will determine the number and size of AirBoss air distribution units.  This process will maximize the AirBoss system efficiency and will allow for a substantial reduction in HVAC tons by 22% plus, for this element of the Smart Design and at the same time improve interior comfort for occupants, due to continuous air circulation.

Heat and Ventilation Smart Design Solutions

AirBoss “SmartAir” Heating

The AirBoss heat only solution offers significant cost-effective benefits. With its constant 24/7 air circulation, an AirBoss system takes advantage of all internal heat loads which will minimize the need for additional source heat from gas or electric heaters. Significantly, the AirBoss design provides an excellent warm weather ventilation solution when air conditioning is not installed.

Heating Operation

The AirBoss ER-242-800 unit is the standard AirBoss system for a winter heating design strategy.  Providing 33,000 cfm continuous 24/7 air flow with onboard (2) 400,000 btu/hr input unit heaters with an output of 328,000 btu/hr or 83% combustion efficiency. 328,000 btu/hr going into the building 2ws3.90-unit heaters are available depending on the application. AirBoss systems are designed to meet .06 cfm intake air code, utilizing intake hoods located on the roof or sidewall depending on the application. The unit heaters have direct fired burners. The burners of the units are controlled by the air sensor located on the unit remote-control panel.  The burner is rated at 92% combustion efficiency with a 30 to 1 gas turn down ration. This allows the unit burners, depending on the heat required, to modulate up and down to provide the correct amount of heat to maintain inside temperatures. Example: A 2,500,000 btu/hr burner can provide 2,500,000 btu/hr input on high fire down to 83,334 btu/hr or anywhere in between these two inputs.

AirBoss “SmartAir” Summer Ventilation

With the dynamic air flow from the AirBoss units the “SmartAir” ventilation design is possible.  AirBoss Units with powered Intake Hoods along with intake louvers provide the fresh air. This summer ventilation design generates 1/2 air change per hour versus a conventional design that generates 2 changes per hour. The objective is to minimize the effects of hot air intrusion into the space during the hot periods of each day. There are a number of variables to this design, but the critical design element is the 24/7 operation of the AirBoss system.

Ventilation Operation

Run the AirBoss units with the outside air dampers and louvers open when the outside temperature is cooler than the interior temperature of the facility, typically over-night.  This process will bring in the cooler night-air into the facility. The ER-242-800 units will distribute this air throughout the facility, cooling down the interior, (walls, ceiling, floor, racks, inventory and equipment).

Close the outside air dampers when the inside temperature equals the outside side, typically early morning. This action traps cooler conditions in the facility and stops the intrusion of warmer outside air.  The AirBoss units run 24/7, circulating the cooler air. The AirBoss units also provide circulation to eliminate warm spots within and to provide direct air circulation around the occupants. This displaces the need for interior fans. When the air temperature inside the facility equals the temperature outside, the cycle stars over by reopening the dampers.

System Flexibility

If there is a possibility that air-conditioning might be required in the future, AirBoss is a very economical solution, with only the need to add cooling units to the already installed heating and air circulation system.
