Project Challenge:

eBay (Global Sports) renovated and added to an existing facility in the Louisville industrial area.  These facilities are heated to 70° F in the winter and air conditioned during the summer. eBay’s previous HVAC system was a combination of Cambridge Makeup Air Units and Roof Top Units which resulted in high utility costs and varying temperatures throughout the facilities.  eBay was seeking a system that would provide consistent temperatures, improved efficiency and a total control system.

Equipment Solution:

The AirBoss team designed a solution that utilizes a combination of Roof Top Units that are duct into (27) AirBoss units for a 473,000 ft² combination new construction and retro fit construction project.  The entire system is operated by a comfort energy control system. During the summer, the RTUs supply cooling into the AirBoss units. During the winter the AirBoss units will perform in the same manor but instead will deliver heat and mix the existing heat load in the space.  The comfort control system allows eBay’s plant manager to control all (3) facilities from a central location

Results of AirBoss System:

Annual utility savings totaling $159,613

  • Circulates air from ceiling to floor limiting temperature variability to +/- 2° F
  • Improved over-all comfort level in the facility in all seasons
  • Reduced electrical – 947,350 kW at $0.10/kW
  • Reduced natural gas – 90,110 therms at $0.72/thm
  • AirBoss allowed a lower project capital cost for expansion by $400,000
